A single Institutions/Agency (e.g. University X, Public Health Agency Y, Space Agency Department Z) can be designated by WHO with objectives defined by WHO for a specific WHOCC.

The single WHOCC is established by WHO in single institution/agency and not by a network of institutions. The WHOCC supports the participation in collaborative research developed under WHO's leadership, including the planning, conducting, monitoring and evaluation of research; evaluation of WHO interventions in countries; and promotion of the application of the results of research in the context of WHO.
